I have helped so many horses, including those with traumatic experiences, to regain trust and even enjoy being ridden again. It just feels so amazing when my horse voluntarily comes to the fence, positioning himself next to it, for me to hop on.
When I was young, I didn't have a pony of my own, but I always had ponies to care for. They were my safe place and I spent every free minute with them after school. There was no riding school and I did not have a saddle, so I needed to 'explain' to the pony to park next to the fence when I wanted to ride. I realize now that this is how I learned to be and communicate with horses in a very natural way.

Mounting a horse with previous trauma
Jajão, my Lusitano horse, had a very negative association with riding. He was trained for bull fighting in Portugal and he had marks from spurs on his belly and wounds in his mouth from the bit. He was anxious when you tried to put a saddle on and even worse when trying to mount him. He needed time to trust me and we needed to establish a 2-way communication before I could ask anything from him. Total 17 videos!
